Can a Germany tourist visa be completed entirely online?
Not through the national-visa portal described by the Federal Foreign Office: its published guidance says Schengen applications are not yet accepted online. For a short visit, online form preparation and appointment booking are steps toward the official submission, not a substitute for it.
Read the Federal Foreign Office portal explanation. A completed screen, saved PDF or email from a private business is not proof that the authorities have accepted your visa application. Keep the different stages clearly labelled in your own records.

What should you do before starting the form?
Decide the actual purpose, travel dates, accommodation and funding arrangement. Keep the passport and supporting records beside you. Enter facts from those records rather than memory, and avoid carrying details across from another traveller’s form without checking them.

What does completing VIDEX not do?
It does not reserve an appointment, establish the right visa category or guarantee a decision. Keep form preparation, booking confirmation, submission receipt and the decision as separate records. When someone says your application is “done”, ask which of those stages they mean.
For example, a family may have prepared several forms but still be waiting for submission arrangements. That is not the same as all applications being under assessment. Avoid building travel plans around an ambiguous progress update.
How do you avoid unofficial online application traps?
Navigate from an official government page rather than a sponsored result that resembles a visa form. Before sending documents or paying, identify who operates the page and whether the charge is official or for private assistance. Never share account passwords or one-time codes in a general enquiry.
