Do you need a UK visa or an ETA?
The passport used for travel determines whether you need a Standard Visitor visa, an electronic travel authorisation, or neither. UAE residence does not by itself decide the route. UAE passport holders are currently among the nationalities eligible for an ETA, while many UAE residents holding Indian, Pakistani, Filipino and other passports need a visitor visa. What can you do as a UK Standard Visitor?
The Standard Visitor route covers tourism, visiting family or friends, certain business activities, short study and some medical visits, subject to its permitted-activity rules. It does not generally allow ordinary paid or unpaid work for a UK company, long-term study, repeated residence through frequent visits, or access to public funds. The declared purpose and evidence must match the planned activity.

What evidence should a UAE resident prepare?
A UK visitor application should explain who you are, why you are travelling, how the trip will be funded and why you will leave after the visit. The online form and supporting evidence should agree on employment, income, savings, sponsor support, accommodation, travel history and family circumstances. There is no universal bank-balance figure or mandatory six-month passport rule for every visitor case.

How does the UK visitor application process work?
First confirm the route and permitted activity, then complete the GOV.UK form and pay the official fee. Visa applicants normally book a visa application centre appointment to prove identity, provide biometrics and submit documents. UKVI assesses the application after those steps. What do UK visitor applicants ask?
Applicants most often need clarity about visa versus ETA eligibility, filing dates, permitted stay, decision timing and faster services. These answers reflect current general GOV.UK guidance, but the correct route and evidence still depend on passport, UAE residence, travel purpose, funding and personal history.
Does every UAE resident need a UK visit visa?
No. The requirement follows the passport used for travel, not UAE residence alone. Some nationalities need a Standard Visitor visa, while eligible visa-exempt nationalities may need an ETA. Use the official GOV.UK checker for the traveller’s passport.
How early can I apply for a UK Standard Visitor visa?
GOV.UK currently allows applications up to three months before travel. Allow time for evidence preparation, biometrics and the official decision period rather than waiting until the final weeks.
How long can a Standard Visitor normally stay?
A Standard Visitor can usually visit for up to six months. Longer-validity visitor visas may be issued for two, five or ten years, but each visit is normally limited to six months and repeated visits must not amount to living in the UK.
How long does a UK visitor visa decision take?
GOV.UK currently says a Standard Visitor decision is usually made within three weeks after the online application, identity check and document submission. This is guidance, not a guarantee, and applicants should check the live processing-time service.
