Which Oman route works from Dubai?
For a short fly-in break, stay in Muscat and choose one nearby coastal or interior day. A four-to-six-night northern circuit can connect Muscat with Nizwa, a mountain stay, Wahiba Sands and selected wadis when the sequence is realistic. Salalah is a separate southern destination and should not be added to a short Muscat road trip.

Should you fly or drive from Dubai?
Flying works well for a Muscat-centred trip and avoids land-border and vehicle paperwork. Self-driving gives flexibility for a northern circuit, but every traveller and vehicle must be ready for the correct crossing. Confirm visa eligibility, border opening and permitted route, original vehicle documents, owner authorisation where applicable, Oman-valid insurance and rental-company approval before departure.

When is a good time for an Oman road trip?
October to April is commonly preferred for cooler northern-Oman touring, but mountain nights can be cold and weather can still alter access. Summer heat affects hiking and outdoor timing. Salalah’s khareef follows a different seasonal pattern from Muscat and the northern circuit. Wadi and canyon plans must respond to forecasts and local warnings because flash flooding can occur.
